3 Must-Dos Before You Hit a Chip Shot
It’s simple. The better we chip, the lower our score. We can use a variety of techniques to hit great chips, but we must do these three things regardless of technique: Walk onto the Green and Pick a Landing Area . This does three things. One, we get a better visual of the terrain that our golf ball will be traveling. Two, we are using our feet to feel if the landing area is firm or soft, wet or dry. And three, we are visualizing how far the ball is going to roll in relationship to the landing area and the hole. Is the ball going to fly 50% of the distance in the air and roll 50%? Or is it going to fly one-third and roll two-thirds? There is no right or wrong, however, this decision helps in shot and club selection. Ideally, this landing area is the size of a hula hoop or baby swimming pool. If your landing area doesn’t give you this much space, you might need to choose a more forgiving landing area.
