Piggyback Rides
This guy gave the BEST piggyback rides! He was also the guy that spent countless hours on the range tee and golf course with me. As much as I would lean on him to help me get better, there came a point where he couldn’t do it for me.
Often, our students will say that they do “IT” so well when we are around, but fall apart when they go to play or practice on their own. They are essentially getting a piggyback ride from us. They feed off of our energy and we program the thoughts for them and there is momentary SUCCESS! And this is all well and good, but eventually the player wants to say that THEY did it on their own. This lack of success often causes a downward spiral in confidence and motivation. And before you know it, the student is grasping at straws on You Tube or tries a different instructor, thinking that avoiding inner change and growth is the answer.
We have worked with some of the most talented golfers at every level, and often times they are still not able to perform “when it really means something” (that in of itself is a whole other blog). Our truth is that the intention of fun, confidence, joy, freedom (or whatever your word is) must occur before the success will ever come. Students intend to do better with a teacher at their side, but avoid that intention when it requires their own source of energy, thoughts, effort...
Our friend, Tim Kremer, the Founder of Peak Performance Mind Coaching says it this way,
“ Is it a strong sense of belief in ourselves or is it a strong sense of belief that we can hit good golf shots that we want to feel most as we access the emotion of belief? Are we trying to believe more in our talent or simply trying to believe more in us? Without exception, a strong sense of belief in ourselves that contains clarity and confidence allows us to believe in literally everything we are about to do with no strings attached. Otherwise, when results are poor, our belief in both ourselves and golf is already at risk and pretty much shot for the day.”
Believe in YOU. Believe in the PROCESS. Let it BE FUN!
Many Birdies,
