Golf Alchemy

Alchemy is defined as "the medieval FORErunner of chemistry, based on the transformation of matter."  The alchemists were often "concerned with finding a universal elixir."

In my world, golf IS the universal elixir. As said before, it is a microcosm of life. But to me, it is more than that. It is a place deep inside you where you can find strength, calm, healing, and even destruction if needed. Basically, anything you want is available with golf.

The alchemy of golf appears in a variety of forms for many of my students.  Single moms needing quiet time, "me" time, girl time. Older adults relishing in the balance, coordination, and friendships the sport provides. And those with challenges, are able to focus on their strengths and escape "reality" for a little while.

But deeper changes are coming...

Despite your reasons for playing golf, awareness created through golf allows us to to make choices and through choice, we can create new patterns. And with new patterns, we can take on the world.

Choices can be as simple as what club to hit, or as complicated as choosing to not react to bad shots. And every time we choose to not react to a bad shot, we may really be choosing to be happy versus allowing outside influences to determine our state of being. And every time we choose to be happy on the inside, we have rewired our brain, creating new patterning for a better way of being.

And that is only one example.

For this very reason, I love giving my lessons on the golf course. It provides the perfect environment for real magic to happen. I am convinced that we share space with an energetic vortex, tree spirits, and animal personalities that aide in golf transformation. There's definitely a calming effect that happens as soon as one goes around the bend from one green to two tee box. Nothing is more healing than balancing on Earth Mama while performing a move of balance, rhythm, and grace. An even if that move is anything but graceful, the green grass, blue skies and scent of honeysuckle will take the edge off.

Golf as it happens on TV appears to be a game of strength and length, but in my world the true strength is leaving your less-than-desirables behind and connecting to your true soul for as long as you can muster. It's an escape from "reality" to who you are deep inside your your being that is more "real".

Golf has been meditation, prayer, and connection to something bigger than me. It comforts me on the difficult days, challenges me when my ego needs to be challenged, and inspires me to dig deeper. Golf has taught and brought me everything I have ever needed: true love, companionship, respect, honest work, relationships, joy, give and take, loyalty, responsibility and selflessness. And that is just the beginning of the transformation...

Many Birdies,

Melissa
