Yoga for Life and Golf and Everything in Between

Image
Yoga was originally a verb. It was something you do to engage, get involved, to participate, to connect. Just like golf, it is a process . It's the way you engage with the world and create relationships. Yoga does have a physical practice associated with it, however, breathing, meditating, eating, fasting or basically any human function can be attained with the help of yoga. Yoga may sound intimidating for those who have never practiced. Golf may very well carry the same rap for the uninitiated. So why join the two? On a physical level, yoga can help us improve balance, increase flexibility and range of motion, reduce stress, and enhance our ability to focus. Those are all good things for golf. Those are also good things for life. Yoga and her sister practices are helping me run a business, have a family and play golf competitively, all while maintaining a small level of sanity (I think?!). My vision for combining yoga and golf are bigger than sanity maintenance.   On the less...

In Between Birdie and Bogey

I recently played in a US Women's Open Qualifier in North Carolina.  It is a one-day, 36-hole event that takes you directly to the US Women's Open if you finish in the top three. For me, there were a lot of wins this year even though I didn't shoot low enough to qualify. If you look at my scores, it may seem like my game is more than a bit off from qualifying, but I was just a couple mental mistakes away from playing well. And I believe there certainly is. Lately, a lot of things feel "in between" for me.  My golf game has improved so much over the last 8 years, that is feels like a whole new game, yet the scores don't always reflect. In between good and great . Our business is growing exponentially, yet we are still operating as a small business with big busine...

Golf Alchemy

Image
Alchemy is defined as "the medieval FORErunner of chemistry, based on the transformation of matter."  The alchemists were often "concerned with finding a universal elixir." In my world, golf IS the universal elixir. As said before, it is a microcosm of life. But to me, it is more than that. It is a place deep inside you where you can find strength, calm, healing, and even destruction if needed. Basically, anything you want is available with golf. The alchemy of golf appears in a variety of forms for many of my students.  Single moms needing quiet time, "me" time, girl time. Older adults relishing in the balance, coordination, and friendships the sport provides. And those with challenges, are able to focus on their strengths and escape "reality" for a little while.  But deeper changes are coming... Despite your reasons for playing golf, awareness created through golf allows us to to make choices and through choice, we can create new patterns. An...
